Who's idea was it that we all needed well manicured grass in the yard. It does give a nice area to play with the family, but what if there was another way? Replace your grass and it will save you time, money, and will help the environment. Win - Win for everyone!
Save the bees!
Honey bees are dying, with honey bees gone. Many years ago, I decided I wanted to make a difference, even if just a small dent... That and laziness, as I don't like paying for it (or doing myself) lawn care.
Eight years ago, I started replacing my grass with groundcover. I still have patches, but it's getting there. Most grows 1-2 inches and the rest is 4-6 inches, almost no upkeep. can be walked on, doesn't die in the winter and occasionally, a lawn of flowers pop up. No weed killer. I have another solution for that - my stand up weed puller (4 prong). I can pull a 1\4 acre of weeds in an hour or so without having an aching back.

Mini Clover - https://amzn.to/3J41eXu It only grows to approximately 4 - 6 inches tall after it is mowed a few times.
Dichondra Repens Dwarf - https://amzn.to/3CghYad It grows very close to the ground, (usually not over 2 inches tall) and is a warm season fast growing ground cover.

More people should start with this. My goal is no more lawn to mow, and I'm getting much closer. Helps honey bees and easier to care for.
This was my lawn in 2019. Full of grass and a few weeds.
Here is what it looks like last year. .
As you can see. I still have some grass, but hopefully you notice how different the heights are. This was a week after the mowing. There are some sections that do not need mowing at all. I get cute little flowers occasionally and it is nice to walk on.
Some lessons learned from my effort...
- smoother, kill the grass or remove before adding ground cover. It would have had this complete a long time ago, if I had. I've been using my weed puller to pull out the grass. It's a long process. I've had much more luck by laying thick black mat out and killing large areas, then pulling up and spreading seeds for the ground cover.
I encourage more people to follow my lead.
I use a combination of several seeds.
